In this thread please share your best beauty tips (based on personal experiences) for whatever part of the body or area of beauty ^_^ !
Here's a couple of mine ^_^ ;
Really dry skin;
A lot of moisturizers are water based and so inevitably dry out over the course of the day, which if you suffer from really dry skin is a real pain. What i recommend if you get this problem is to use pure coconut oil (literally 100% nothing added nothing taken coconut oil)- it smells lightly fragrant and is a light clear oil, but due to being an oil it doesn't dry out (yet is still absorbed into the skin) so works as a great moisturizer if you suffer from really dry skin.
I've been using it on my skin for a whole year now and it has done wonders for my dry skin (which in the past used to get so dry in some area's it would peel badly & feel sore). Its never caused me spots and because it is 100% natural it doesn't cause any reactions, so i would definitely recommend it based on my personal experience ^_^ .
For exfoliating sensitive skin;
I would totally recommend using a 100% silk scrubbing pad or mitt, ever since i bought mine my skin has been wonderfully smooth and clear and my blackheads have cleared up enormously. A lot of facial sponges are too rough while a lot of exfoliating soaps are too harsh for the skin, but scrubbing pads or mitts made of silk like this;
http://cgi.ebay.com/Japanese-Natural-10 … 439b4cdcde
are much gentler on the skin and so can be used regularly without risking over-exfoliating the skin so much, yet still having an effective texture to remove dead skin & excess oil etc. My one is so good i don't even use soap with it yet it has done wonders for my skin and has been a hundreds times better than any other soap or sponge i have tried etc ^_^ .

Go on Youtube, and search for Lauren Luke. She gives you brilliant step by step videos to get perfect and amazing make-up looks

if you use spot cream everyday not only will it get rid of them but it will also keep them away
.

Spot cream will probably dry your skin if you use it every day.

If you use the same spot cream for too long it stops doing it's job properly as your skin gets used to it, i find its best to change after every bottle/tube or so.
Also wearing foundation may cover up blemishes but it makes it worse in the long run as pores can't breathe and what not.

Might get one of those silk mits I get bad blackheads especially on my nose!
Ah foundation is such a vicious circle... I dont use it when it is hot tho really, the sun is so good for bad skin, it even helps my friend with acne!

I have dry skin but I don't use products from the bottle and stuff. Try natural ingredients like the Strawberry facial mask which only has strawberries and honey. You could search it up. And there's an egg mask where you just need one egg. The tutorial is on youtube from michelle phan, She knows other beauty tips and make-up as well.

Sunscreen and shade to keep skin beautiful and soft and prevent aging. No one likes a sunburn.
2+ litres of water a day to keep you feeling full between meals and to flush impurities from your skin.
Once a week, a mixture of hot extra virgin olive oil, an egg and half a lemon in your hair for one hour for softness, volume and shine. Smells terrible though, and be careful when washing it out that you don't slip on all the oil. Putting shampoo in before you wet it can help getting it all out.

good idea.
as for skincare, your best bet with makeup is to use mineral makeup.
aslo, when rinsing your face from cleansing or whatever, use cold water so your pores close up and dirt doesnt go in.
i like using tinted moisturizers with spf of at least 15. reduces redness, mosturizes skin and protects from sun
the one i use is about 3 dollars and so far, its not that bad for my (sensitive) skin

Ways to keep your skin acne free:
• Avoid popping or touching your pimples whenever possible. Your body is only going to produce more acne the more you pop the acne. In addition, it will take twice as long for your blemish to be gone because touching or squeezing it causes added inflammation and irritation and that gives your body another imperfection to cure.
• Wash your entire face at least two times a day. Make sure you use a mild facial soap or a gentle facial cleanser that doesn't contain oil and is not acidic. Proper care of you skin is the best way to end acne and prevent it from reappearing.
• Use a sulfur-based moisturizer after you wash your face. Try to use one that is made for people who suffer from acne. When you wash your face, the natural lipids in the skin are stripped out, which is why you should use a moisturizer specifically for your skin type. This ensures that your skin won't produce unneeded oil that may cause your skin to become more susceptible to acne breakouts.
• Many people use over-the-counter acne treatment products. In fact, most people who suffer from acne turn to over-the-counter acne treatments. There are topical creams you can buy but you need to make sure these don't have ingredients that can cause adverse reactions on your skin or make your acne condition worse.
• If you partake in detoxification activities like yoga, it is important to remember to wipe the sweat off your face immediately.
• Creams that have benzyl peroxide as the active ingredient are all right to use. Just keep in mind even these can dry out your skin.
• Minimize the use of cosmetics over the pimple. It is alarming to know that although beauty products can conceal your pimple break out, it also increases the risk of infection.
• Avoid using oil-based products on your hair. Some products may say they are safe on the scale but when we sweat, the chemical-laden beauty product slides down to the face where it can seriously aggravate acne symptoms.
• If you are using alcohol-based and oil-based facial wash or toner, taking a break can actually minimize the inflammation of the skin.
• Check your diet as it may contribute to acne. For many people, food allergy can cause very serious acne-like condition. You should avoid eating too much oily and spicy food. Recent studies have shown that acne can also be caused by milk which contains hormones as well as seafood with relatively high levels of iodine. Other foods you may consider avoiding are: sugar, dairy products, deep-fried food, meat, nut butters, etc. On the other hand, it is believed that green vegetables, vegetable juices and foods rich in zinc can help alleviate acne condition.
• Drink more water every day. "Eight glasses of water a day can keep acne away." says Jennifer Thoden, a respected acne expert. The reason is that water can carry waste material out of our body and it really helps heal and prevent acne flare-ups.
• Do not wear makeup if possible. Makeup products can clog your pores, cause more blackheads and pimples. If you have to wear makeup, make sure it is water-based. Be sure to clean your makeup brushes regularly and cleanse your skin before you sleep.
• Exercise moderately as it helps in blood circulation and elimination of toxins.
• Stay stress-free. Studies have shown that stress not only worsens acne flare-up, it also worsens the overall skin condition. Talk to your friends, listen to your favorite music, or take a walk in the park. There are many things you can do to be stress free.
• Get sunshine in moderation. Sunshine stimulates vitamin D in the body, an essential vitamin for healthy skin. Fresh air and sunshine can also reduce stress and increase oxygen to the skin. Don't get burnt in the sun though. Burnt and heavily tanned skin forms a layer on the skin that doesn't exfoliate quickly enough and can lead to blocked pores.
• Once a week, you can do a glycolic peel to clean out pores without stripping the skin of too much oil.
edit: guess my awesome thread is pointless now... *snif*

For warmer days when you don't feel like wearing full foundation mix your foundation with your moisturizer. Tinted moisturizer.
I don't know about anyone else but I have severe acne and it never bothered my skin as long as I washed my face properly at the end of the day.

to pandafromchina - your thread isnt useless it just found a home over here
also, it is a good idea to keep your phone clean. take a sanitizing wipe and wipe your phone every so often. that way, the dirt on your phone from your bag or whatever doesnt end up on your cheeks

Adding a cup of oats to your bath leaves your skin really soft. Also, if you mix oats and honey you get quite a nice exfoliating scrub too.
I've heard drinking excess milk isn't good if you suffer from real acne, like the proper all over stuff, so it's best to stick to half pint per day + whatever for cereal/tea/coffee.
Oh, and a favourite of mine is talcum powder instead of dry shampoo (ONLY if you're blonde, or since I have pink hair it works too, just lightens it a bit). It's cheaper and works well, it does cause a pretty bad static problem though, but I find it to be a lot less itchy and doesn't cause dandruff.

I have dark brown hair and the talcum powder works a treat for me as well, especially if you have easily greasy hair. You just need to know how to work it in properly.

My fringe goes greasy a lot quicker than the rest of my hair so I use dry shampoo.
You just spray it in and brush it out.
Its such a simple thing but I don't know anyone else that uses it
but I swear its really good

Here's tips and product suggestions that I've come up with based on my hair and skin type. I have sensitive combination skin that burns easily and naturally wavy hair that tends to dry out. I'm also an organics freak, so anyone who's thinking of being more organic with their beauty regimen might find products that work for them!
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
It's best to wash my hair every other day. Dry shampoos or shampoo powder is great for the day in between. I personally love my organic, jasmine scented one! It compliments my solid Godiva shampoo from Lush. I just hate the price... Thankfully, though, a little goes a long way!

I do a twice daily cleanse, tone and moisturizer regimen, applying the cleanser and toner with two different sea sponges. I use the rough side of an Elephant Ear with my cleanser, flipping it over to the smooth side to go over any blemishes. I use a Mediterranean Silk to apply my toner. And I always, always use an SPF 15 moisturizer after my morning wash.

Speaking of sunshine and SPF, on those days down at the beach, wear something with long sleeves, even if it's a thin or sheer fabric like linen, if you're not wearing sunblock. (I love a couple from Victoria's Secret swim line) And reapply your sunscreen after going in the water, whether it's "waterproof" or not. Better safe than sorry!

No matter what anyone else says, I will always standby my mineral foundation! It took a minute to get used to and was a bit messy at first because I'd never used loose powder on my face before, but now I get in on in record time with "just right" coverage, not too light or heavy. I used to hate makeup, but I would NEVER go without it in my line of work. Feels like nothing is there. And my skin has cleared up dramaticly since I switched.

At the end of the day, it's essential to remove makeup to keep it from clogging your pores (especially if you don't use mineral makeups). I always use a eye makeup remover with a Carribean Silk sponge before cleansing, toning and moisturizing again. And you should use a different moisturizer for your end of the day routine, one that's formulated for night time use, because your skin reacts differently while you are sleeping than it does when you're awake.

Exfoliation is your friend if you know how to do it right! It's suggested to exfloliate 2-3 times a week. Myself, I only do it twice because of the light exfoliation of my sponge while I use my normal cleanser. And a mask once a week does wonders too!

Here's a tip that I picked up for those who incessantly want to pop zits- instead of pinching the skin inwards, try pulling it outwards instead. I've found this especially effective after a warm/hot shower. The steam opens my pores, then pull the surrounding skin outward gently. By simply pressing down gently and running a fingernail over the blemish while I'm pulling the skin, it clears right out. It's still not something you ought to do, but it's less likely to scar than pinching.
I'll be back with more later if anyone would like. ^_^

I have dark brown hair too and i agree the talcum powder trick works so well; its so convenient. Sometimes i use it before school when my hair looks a tad oily and im wearing my fringe down. All you have to remember to do is not use to much (or it will smell) and brush it ALL out so it doesnt look like your getting greys Lol
I also recommend you wash your hair that night because if you dont and you repeat the trick the next day it can smell and even look oilier. Plus it will be really difficult to brush the talcum powder out and it will look like you have dandruff or don't shower

P.s. Tokis, im definitely trying your pure coconut oil trick! My skin is shockingly dry and so far nothing has worked long term to keep it smooth. Oh and the coconut scent is a bonus i love coconut
Thankyou!

my only beauty tip is: use lotion for your body and for your face in order to keep your skin hydrated. i use avene face cream with SPF every morning before i put on my make`up and use various other brands for the whole body (feet up to the neck). for the body you can use cheaper ones because it doesn`t matter anyway, for the face you need to find a lotion that is good for your type of skin.

Exactly. But what I do is put the powder on my hair, turn my head up side down and toss the powder into my hair with my fingers. Stand up right and then brush my hair. A little bit of hair spray on the ends helps with the static.

Yeah, when i use talcum powder i put it around my side part and in my fringe (because they are the only two areas which really get oily); i sort of pat/massage it in and then shake it and brush it out. I havent tried the hairspray trick for the static though, i grab bunchs of static and smooth it out with my hands. Its a little trick i learnt in physics class actually

Any advice for dry lips that doesn't involve lip balm or vaseline?
I try to avoid using them too much after a nasty incident where I used them so much that my lips stopped creating their own moisture. My bf confiscated my vaseline and I just had to wait it out while my lips got back to normal which involved the fun and extremely uncomfortable experience of letting them scab over and then clear up.
I currently drink about 1.5L of straight water and a fair bit of tea and juice so I'm ok for fluid intake, it's just that the cold is murder on my skin, especially my lips!
Any help would be really appreciated. =]

No worries ^_^ , you only need to use a tiny amount of the oil to get very effective results and it can also be used on the tips/ends of your hair too if you get dry/brittle hair problems ^_^ .
