Ok so we're back from the doctor's and here's the scoop. She said that he still has an ear infection and the penicillin he was on didn't work. She prescribed him some biaxin which I was on when I was little and had bronchitis and it worked wonders for me. So hopefully that will take care of the ear infection and the cough. As for the hives she said she thought it was from the infection, just his bodies way of trying to fight it off I guess. It's a good thing I got into the doc's when I did b/c yesterday he only had the hives on his face and when I got to the doc's office today they were all over his body. I guess it's kind of a good thing b/c at least she was able to see them and not just think I was crazy lol. So she told me to give him benadryl for the hives as needed and also prescribed a cortisone cream to put on the hives for 7 days. And then there's the wheezing, she said that was probably due to the family history and prescribed him a puffer with an air chamber to use if he starts wheezing again. I just feel so bad for the little guy sad oh well at least he has some good medicine now and hopefully he will be feeling better soon!

Awwwwwwwwww.....poor little guy!! I'm so glad you got everything you need to make him all better!!! Sending a 'get better' hug his way!  content3

Kennydra-
I hope he feels better soon! I think there's nothing worse than to watch your child sick. When Bella was sick with her ear infection I would have done anything to just make it go away! Maybe the antibiotic will help with the wheezing too? Watch to be sure the hives don't get worse with the new meds though, I'm sure you will, but I am just so paranoid after my little one's allergic reaction!

I have a 16 month old boy, a 3 year old boy, and an 8 year old boy! My youngest is also starting to have terrible 2 behavior…he has a temper like no other and HATES for me to stop him from doing anything he wants to try! He also has a “thing  with handling any foods that aren’t hard (cracker-like) and won’t eat them. He will not allow himself to be fed and will only eat certain things. I spoke with his MD and he’s still gaining weight appropriately and all his blood levels are where they’re supposed to be (had him checked because my 3 -year-old was anemic for a while) so he recommended just to keep trying but not to worry overly much about it…it’s a phase and he’ll grow out of it. My 3 -year-old LIVES off mac and cheese!! lol

My youngest also started waking up 2 to 3 times a night about a month ago wanting a bottle in the middle of the night and with me having 2 other children and a full time job I caved and gave it to him so I could get back to sleep. He did that for about 3 weeks and is now back to going to bed around 9 and sleeping up until 9 to 10 the next morning. I just have to keep on a very strict schedule with respect to bedtime or he gets overly tired and fussy waking up in the middle of the night again.

Children are a blessing but they’re also A LOT of work!! lol

Hang in there!!  content3

LOL your little one could be related to mine!
She is quite independent, and will not let me feed her, so right now everything has to be finger food, we've been working on the spoon and fork thing but that hasn't been going so well. The temper is exactly the same too, if I take something away or make her go in a direction she doesn't want to she screams or sits down.
She has her next dr. appt next week and I'm sure they'll say she's doing just fine weight wise. I just wish she'd start eating something other than pasta! At lunch today i even tried turkey hot dogs and a little pizza, she wanted no part of them, just her pasta. Luckily she does eat a lot of fruit, or I would be more worried about vitamins!

So, I don't have a toddler, but I'm hoping that you more experienced moms can give some advice (I don't go for the "cafemamadrama" anymore).
Anyway, my 10 month old has gotten her first 4 teeth - 2 on top, 2 on bottom, and nursing her is NOT pleasant. She has been exclusively breast fed since she was born. I want to wean her, but I'm not really sure where to start. We are down to 4 feedings a day - approximately 8:30am, 2pm, 7pm and 9pm when I nurse her to sleep. Which one should I cut out first? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regarding kids who won't eat veggies - I have heard "the Sneaky Chef" is great. I have "Deceptively Delicious". My boyfriend, who hates vegetables never knows he is eating them!

Hi there I nursed my son for the first year too, good job on making it so hard b/c it is hard work! My first question is I know you said she has been exclusively breastfed, but have you started her on any baby food yet? I'm assuming yes and you just meant she only had breastmilk and no formula. My other question is how is she sleeping at night? I was really hesistant to cut out my son's later feedings b/c I thought he might wake up hungry or something, but once I tried it I found it wasn't a problem. So if she is sleeping good and isn't taking any night feedings I would cut out the 7pm one b/c she is probably getting enough to eat from supper and the 9pm feeding that she'll be good. Have you started her on cow's milk yet? I heard the last night feeding is the hardest to cut out too, but the funny thing is I never had a problem with it with my little guy. Actually I cut out the night feeding and was still nursing just first thing in the morning. I found that one to be the hardest to cut out! I finally just stopped about a month ago with the morning one and just started giving him a bottle of cow's milk instead both first thing in the morning and right before bed. He still gets a little clingy now and then and grabs on my girls, but he wasn't devastated. I think I was more sad than he was when it was all said and done! I hope this helps even a little! Good luck!

Thanks for the help. Yes, I started her on rice cereal at 4 months. Now, she prefers to feed herself finger food. She eats all sorts of stuff. I haven't started her on the cow's milk yet. Our nurse practitioner advised me to wait until after her first birthday, but I know a lot of people who started their kids before that.
She sleeps okay - not so great lately, but I can understand why. She has terrible pollen allergies already (so do I, I know exactly how she feels) and she has been waking lately. She nurses for a bit (although I'm sure it is a comfort thing - not a hunger thing). I am trying to get her attached to a blankie or dollie to help comfort, but I'm finding this difficult as well.
Did you wean your son to a bottle or cup? Marley (oh, that's her name) has used a sippy "straw" cup for about 3 months now. I don't think she'd know what to do with a bottle.
Yeah, I'm kind of sad about the whole thing. I'm gonna miss out quiet, lazy time together.

She used to sleep well through the night but lately has been waking around 4 a.m.! Maybe I'm putting her to bed too early (usually between 7 and 8pm)? I don't think I am, but I also don't want her to get used to having a bottle or attention when she wakes up in the middle of the night.

She used to eat everything but has become very fussy lately...all she wants is fruit (especially blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and cherries) and bread or pasta. sometimes she'll eat fish, but not meat or chicken, and lately the only veggie she'll eat is cucumbers...which is basically water LOL...Any tips for finger foods or ways to hide veggies?

Hi i have 2 children also, a boy who is 3 1/2 and a little girl who is 5 months. I was just wondering if your little girl still has a little sleep in the afternoon, sometimes if you reduce there nap time you will find they sleep a bit better at night.   smile

She does nap, and until recently she was still taking 2 naps which really messed with my day. Now she's down to just 1 nap from about 1-2:30 or 3. But funny enough, her sleeping was better when she had the 2 naps. She starts pre school in Sept though, so she really needs to be just on the 1 nap schedule.

Re: Momma Bimbos - Chat Thread

I just have to say EVERYONE's kids are so darn cute!! Bimbo's obviously create really adorable babies smile

Zanaicadiz - Love that you referred to Oli as your heck's angel...my daughters nickname is Bella, but when she's acting up I refer to her as "heck's bells".

maryjayne - i am so with you on tha "Cafemamadrama" LOL the Nest got to be the same way...and forget about urbanbaby there is a daily fight over which is better, Stay at home Moms or "working" moms...please.
Anyway, I started my daughter on Milk around her 1st b-day per her pediatrician's instructions. If she's doing ok with the straw cup I would say keep using that. I am trying (in vain) to get my daughter off the bottle. I would say it's best to not even start Marley (Love that name BTW) on a bottle!

Have a good night out - you deserve it!!

That's my wee boy with the helmet on!  Don't worry he wasn't riding the bike for real!

I love the name Marley too! Yeah I had to get my son attached to a blankie too. Took a while, but eventually he got hooked lol. He knows that it stays in the crib and he only gets it when it's time for night night. I weaned my son to both bottle and cup. He drinks his juice from a cup and some milk during the day too, but first thing in the morning and right before bed he has his milk in a bottle, but I think that will be stopping soon as he doesn't want to stay still for more than 5mins to drink the bottle. That's great about the sippy cup! I wouldn't even bother giving her a bottle then if she is doing so well with the cup, like Britney said.

My little guy only wants finger foods too. He can't stand to be fed. If it's something he really likes like say a stew or something then he'll let me feed him for a bit, but then he realizes he's being fed and won't take anymore, but if you put it down on his tray he's devour it lol, so stubborn. He doesn't do the whole spoon/fork thing. I've tried, but he just looks at them and thinks their funny and tries to throw his bowl on the floor, so I think we'll just be having finger foods for a while lol.

With younger children its all about sign language and tones of voice. Like touching the radiator and waving your hand rappidly saying HOT HOT HOT hahaha

Also, just explaining things to them, I think alot of people underestimate how much 2yr olds understand, just telling them why they shouldnt do things is sometimes simple enough.

I agree, I think children at that age are a lot smarter than people think. My niece is 3 and she reacts so much better if you tell her not to do something and why than if you just say don't do that or put her in timeout with no explanation.

Re: Momma Bimbos - Chat Thread

To hide veggies --

Blend in pasta sause - even meat can be pureed into sause to provide Protien and Iron
Give veggie juices like tomato or carrot
Give dips like fresh tomato

Also give a variety of foods and fruit like mango, kiwi, papya, cheese cubes and bread sticks.

You could have a teddy bears picnic in the garden with all the colourful food and she could feed teddy and herself with outfeeling she HAS to eat then and there. XX

You could try the Gerber Graduates Turkey sticks. My son is crazy for them! I've been told that in the US they come in different varieties like turkey and carrot etc. They don't look the most appetizing, but he just loves them. I find if I cut them length-wise and then into little chunks he just devours them. Plus it's turkey so it's pretty healthy and there's no preservatives. It's pretty much just water, ground turkey, salt, sugar, onion and garlic powder in a little stick. Anyways just thought I'd suggest those because my little guy loves them so much that I have to buy them in bulk lol. I buy them like 10 at a time b/c only a couple places here sell them!

fou rire Wish I could help you but my 8 year old still acts like an animal sometimes...literally! He'll meow or bark to me when I ask him a question! Thank goodness I'm not the only one with a child that does that! It drives me crazy! Recently I took our kitten to be neutered and told him that if he didn't stop acting like an animal I'd have to make an appointment for him too as I ALWAYS spay/neuter pets! You should have SEEN his face!! Looooooool

I worked in a Nursery and one kid would just bark and woof when he was put on the spot, they decided it was like a defence mecinasam and it only happend when new people came in or when he was asked somethingh he didnt know. I think he was slightly autistic to be honist.

Hi all, do any of your kids try to act like a puppy, my daughter is 15 months and I have a heck of a time keeping her away from the puppy food and water and the chew bones!!  Any suggestions or help is appreciated

My daughter doesn't really act like a dog, but she has a thing with playing in water and playing with the dogs silver dish  (especially the water in the dogs dish!) and this may sound a bit crazy, but this is what I did recently... We have a blow up duck (we bought it at babie's R' Us) that she takes her baths in, so one day she was driving me nuts and I was trying to prep dinner. I took the duck, brought it into the kitchen and added about an inch of water. She had a blast and played in the duck almost like a little pool. I got dinner done and my baby had fun at the same time! Now I do this whenever I want to occupy her and she wants to play with water...I hope that helps!

The year I was in pre-school I acted ike a cat. All the time. I cleaned myself like a cat lol. I was unstopable, and my preschool teacher pulled my mum aside one day to ask her if she believed in re-incarnation LOL. I was THAT convincing. Any way, I annoyed the poo out of everyone that knew me that year, but I outgrew it and became a human again. I have no medical or mental health issues...at least, none that have a name wink

Oh gosh im not saying all children that act like a dog or cat or amimal have a mental health issue! Im would never be one to point judgement or name call as I work with children as my profeshon. This perticular child had other isses anyway - id never met anychild like him.

fou rire Wish I could help you but my 8 year old still acts like an animal sometimes...literally! Looooooool

lol

That sounds like a great idea, she likes to put the puppy food in the water dish, so i'll try giving her something else to put in water maybe that will work, thanks

Re: Momma Bimbos - Chat Thread

Ok I'm needing help now.

My son's 3 in October and has been toilet trained since May time.  He was doing fab but is now pooping in his pants.  He doesn't seem to get much warning and if you distract him and try to take him to the loo it stops and he ends up smearing all day.  He isn't constipated and eats enough fruit and veg to move a small mountain.

When he does get to the loo to poo we make a big hoo-haa, he gets a sticker and all the rest of it but doing it in his pants doesn't bother him at all!

I'm cracking up, my washing machine is about to give up and I'm embarrased for him at nursery!
