KEEPING SAFE ON A NIGHT OUT. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE DRUNK TO HAVE FUN.

I just remembered something that I would really like to see in this forum. We have stuff on like sex and the body to warn young ones and things but what about something general to help people keep safe when they are out on a night out?

Like any helpful websites and things?

I like the way people have posted long advice for people in the other forums.

Could someone do one for staying safe on a night out and post it in here please?

Something like when people are drinking how they shouldn't leave their drinks and come back to drink it in case they get rohipnoled. Stuff like that. Just awareness things.

And alcohol awareness things too.

Thank you all.

Always call a cab if you have been drinking, Don't go home with strangers nor should you go anywhere with them you never know who they can be.

Re: KEEPING SAFE ON A NIGHT OUT. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE DRUNK TO HAVE FUN.

stay with friends. i mean not friends you have a laugh with. i mean friends you REALLY trust. most rapes and stuff are done by people that you know and care about. mainly in your own home too actually but there arent really tips for that. also remember that your elbow will deliver the sharpest blows easiest and that if you need to run ditch the heels asap.

oh and for anyone that thinks its totally the womens responsibility it isnt. only men can stop male rape. remember coercion is still rape and its possible to be too drunk to consent. keep an eye on your female friends, stop your male friends pushing the limits. if you think its a womens fault she gets raped if shes drunk or wearing skimpy stuff (as 1/3 of people do) then you are doing your gender a disservice saying they cant control themselves. if you think their drunkness is somehow an excuse then perhaps they should be responsible with alcohol and take time to know what the law is so that they dont "accidentally" ruin someones life or end up in jail.

you can leave your drinks without fear so we should be able to as well. the only ones that can really change that are you. until that day we must take responsibility for our own actions and the rapists' too apparently, which comes in handy when the blame is landed on the victim.

Re: KEEPING SAFE ON A NIGHT OUT. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE DRUNK TO HAVE FUN.

Know your borders. Don't drink too much. Only go out with colse friends. If you visit places you don't know already, try to keep cool and also take some close,  male friends with you. Oh yeah, do not never ever try any drugs, doesnt matter if your closest friends or strangers offer them you. That's it.

Oh no, one more thing, I know that sounds weird and kinda gross, but if you're not with a whole load of friends, try to dress proper. That means no big cleavage, don't show to much of your legs. I know it sounds weird, but I already made a really bad experience, so just try to stick to it. As sad as it is.

Re: KEEPING SAFE ON A NIGHT OUT. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE DRUNK TO HAVE FUN.

Everything that Anchoredwunderlust said. Rape is never the victim's fault, no matter how they dress or act. And yes, it is a common misconception that rape is often of the dark alley with a stranger kind. The highest statistic is people you know, so be careful even with close friends. People can change drastically at a moment's notice, especially when there is alcohol or drugs involved.

Just be smart. And, like Numba1bimbx said, trust no one with your drinks.

Also when walking on a pavement try and act sober. If the police catch you they can arrest you.

a policeman came to college and said: if you must so drugs then do it in a safe place with friends that can look out for you and make sure you dont get hurt.

i think they gave up on telling students not to get high. lol

Re: KEEPING SAFE ON A NIGHT OUT. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE DRUNK TO HAVE FUN.

remember you can still do stupid kid stuff like go park/beach, or save up for a meal or stay up with pizza and games/films too with the right mates.

if you do have to walk home alone at night then keep in mind that you have the right to be there and if something happens it isnt your fault. it gives you some confidence. it would be good if you are still cautious and ready to run or cross over the street at the sight of anyone.

music stops yo being scared but it also means you cant hear people behind you. if someone wants your bag then its best to throw it and run if you can.

Invest in some Spikey's and only drink from bottles. If you can't find any spikey's them keep your finger over the top of the bottle at all times.

Re: KEEPING SAFE ON A NIGHT OUT. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE DRUNK TO HAVE FUN.

be aware but dont freak out because, as said, most attacks are from your own home and by people you know. if you avoid people in general, or walk in crowded areas you SHOULD be fine. if you arent you were unlucky.

i thnk its really important women dont have to feel like they have less right to go out and that its totally their own responsibility to avoid these terrible things for 2 reasons:

1 because this idea being so strongly made implies it is your fault if you dont walk around expecting to be raped 24/7 taking every precaution. these are extra precautions for your own safety. they are not things that mean you brought it on yourself if you didnt complete a checklist

2 because we shouldnt be fearmongered as women to not be allowed to leave our house without a chaperon. it isnt fair. like someone on thefword said: "50% of rapes take place outside our homes' better not leave the kitchen then'.

dont get me wrong, its MUCH better to be safe than sorry. i just hate telling women its their responsibility to behave a certain way that involves us being pushed out the public circle.

at 6% conviction, if you wore a skirt or have ever slept with anyone then you barely stand a chance either way.

Just a little side note, if you have or know of anybody who has been raped please feel free to click the link in my sig, it is a support group for people who have been victims of abuse, or people who know someone who has suffered abuse.

Re: KEEPING SAFE ON A NIGHT OUT. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE DRUNK TO HAVE FUN.

Don't accept drinks from someone chatting you up unless you are at the bar with them at all times - its really easy for someone to slip something in your drink.

Keep £20 (or whatever your taxi home costs) in your shoe or bra just in case you lose your bag/purse/jacket.

Always tell someone where you are

Re: KEEPING SAFE ON A NIGHT OUT. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE DRUNK TO HAVE FUN.

I go out on my own frequently, so here 12 easy tips:
1. Plan how you are getting there and back home. If necessary arrange a return taxin in advance
2. Limit your drinking
3. Have spare cash for emergencies
4. Carry a condom
5. Don't leave your drink unattended
6. Dont accept drinks from strangers or random acquaintances unless you saw it being prepared. If you wish to accept it have them drink from it first, drink but drink less than half and alternate with water/ soft drink ( Ideally leave within 5/10 minutes of ingesting it as if your drink is spiked whether with too much alcohol or some other drug it will take at 5 miutes for the effects to be felt)
7. Be nice to the staff, befriend them if possible (dont be too friendly or flirty)...they often help people out with cabs
8. If you have long hair tie it up and put insed your coat/ jacket if you're walking home (attackers often grab the victims hair to imobilise them)
9.Always tell someone where you are going and what time they should expect you to be back.
10. If out with friends let each other know when you have arrived home safely. Dont call/ text when you are outside your door do it when you are actually in the house, ideally after you checked that everything is ok...
11. Go out with people you trust; look after yourself and your friends.
12. When out with friends by the default we have a sober/ semi-sober person in the group even if no one is driving....this person kind supervises that no one is out of line/ goes missing.
13. Have fun!!!!

Re: KEEPING SAFE ON A NIGHT OUT. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE DRUNK TO HAVE FUN.

If even sober you decide to leave with a sexy stranger, ask this before you go:
1. his full name ( ask to see ID if possible, i know its a hassle but do it for obvious reasons...make a game of it like i show mine if you shoe me yours)
2. Have his number
3. Know where you are going and what time he/she is taking you home
Now that you know all that, here is what you do with it:
1. Share it with a friend (even if they are not there with you a simple txt saying: went to an after party with John Lennon at Hilton makes all the difference)
2. Let him/her know that people are aware that you are out with him/her
Now all you have to do is enjoy that after party!!!

Thanks all of you! This is such a great topic to have. While I can't possibly add more to the very thorough list of points, I would like to say that I am a supporter of not having to be too drunk to enjoy a night out.

MORE POWER TO YOU LADIES! Thank you for making me believe again that there are truly some great women on this site.

Re: KEEPING SAFE ON A NIGHT OUT. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE DRUNK TO HAVE FUN.

it's basically just knowing your limits. I've got myself into some serious situations by drinking far too much when i'm in town at night. I'm too young to go to nightclubs, but in many towns now-a-days they are opening under-age clubs. If you're my age and going to one, just be cafeful and know your limits if you drink before hand. It should be a good night, but you've always got to have your wits about you, even at 13 - 18 year old do's.
