But some people are happier when they don't eat meat, they don't follow rules, they follow their heart
I've decided to be a vegetarian when I was 15 but I don't mind if other people eat meat because that's their choice just as it is mine not to eat it. It was a little harder than I thought it would be because I needed a lot of energy for school and dancing. Lucky for me, my older sister was a vegetarian too so she cooked for me and herself .. I could never be a vegan.. I mean, drinking milk or eating eggs isn't really torturing animals..or maybe I got something wrong xD

I was going to become a vegetarian a while ago, but my Mum said "Cooking completely different food for you would make too much trouble." I don't really mind not being a vegetarian though...although I do feel bad for the animals.
I don't like it when people say, "I'm a vegetarian...but I still eat chicken" 'cause then you're not a vegetarian!

I've been a vegetarian ever since I was six years old. I don't preach, nor do I think I'm better than anyone else.

How funny!! Mee too! I've actually been thinking about it a lot lately (last month or so). I've increased my fruit intake by 80 percent, and dropped meat considerably. But I don't think I could ever cut it completely.

I'm a picarian, and have been all my life. I'm not scared of meat, though! I know some vegetarians are, but that's just silly.
No offence to anyone who is scared by the sight of meat.

No. I think vegetarianism is ridiculous. They were bred to die so it's best not let them go to waste. All vegetarians do is preach about how much better they are than everyone else, my friends a veggie and she cried when my friend said 'I wanna take you down to the abertoir', she also cried when we watched a deforestation video in Geography, RIDICULOUS! What did we do when we were cavemen? Eat mammoth, we did it to survive. It's the food chain. Get over it.
That's what I think, sorry if I offended anyone I just feel strongly about it lol

But I do love all vegetables and fruit - I have a varied diet

However, if you taste of beef, I shall run a mile.

When I read somethink like that I think: well, if it is natural than go and HUNT for that meat. But you cannot use any guns or axes, because it's not natural. Use only stones, sticks and fire that you've made on your own.
Anyway, vegetarians don't eat only vegetables and fruits. I know some and they honestly hate vegetables. Actually, vegetarianism can be unhealthy. If you are not keen on veggies sooner or later you will start eating instant soups etc.. You have to have an IDEA for your diet, if you don't than better stay 'normal'

I think it would be pretty easy for me as I'm not a huge meat eater. My family actually says I am a vegetarian because I don't eat meat as much as the rest of them. The only thing is I'm not a huge fan of beans/peas so I don't think I would get all the vitamins/nutrients I need.

im vegetarian. have been all my life which makes it easier as i dnt crave chicken or watever. in reply 2 sum people, i dont preach. im no better than anyone else tyvm. i take vitamin and protein suppliments to get what i miss out from like fish and stuff.
and btw, 'tomboybobluvinme', if thats the food chain, i mean, what about the animals that could eat you? youd be quite a treat for a variety of predators.
a lot of you speak strong words against vegetarians. jeez. get over it. its not your say if i eat a dead animal.
im going 2 go get some strawberries

I used to be a vegetarian, but I got sick so I had to go on a high sodium diet. It's not as hard as people think. They make a lot of soy products made to taste like meat.

I think your reasoning is ridiculous.
You are missing the point of being a vegetarian for the purpose of animal rights. It isn't to let animals that are bred to die go to waste, it's to stop the animals from being bred to die in the first place. Or depending on the person's beliefs maybe just to change the way in which they are bred and killed.
All vegetarians don't preach. Some do, some don't. Some meat eaters get overly defensive about their decision to eat meat. Cavemen needed to eat meat to survive. You don't. You are not a caveman.
I'm not against people eating meat, I'm against people having stupid rationalizations about their choices in life.

Ha exactly. That's what made me laugh while reading the comments, all the "I don't like veggies!!!" comments. I guess people really have no clue.

Bravo!
I've been a vegetarian for more or less 15 years now. I have a very clean diet, but I by no means chew on carrots all day
I never tell people that they shouldn't eat meat, I assume it would be as annoying to them as it is for me to hear from people who learn that I'm a vegetarian that "that's what animals are there for!" and "OMG how can you survive!?" and "do vegetables even satiate you?" and so on and so forth. However, whilst I don't tell people what to eat, I do encourage them to consider where the meat on their plate has come from. Yes, of course, from an animal. But how was this animal kept, how was it brought up, what was it fed, how was it killed, were there any animal transportations involved, etc. Most people only care about the price tag in the supermarket.

Bravo, Firefly!
It puts my comment to shame....but still, Tomboybobluvinme, I will eat you. If that is your point of view, eating you would be NATURAL. But because I'm a vegetarian myself, maybe I'll get one of my meat loving pals to eat you instead!

I turned vegetarian when I was 11 - I'm 16 now - and I now couldn't imagine going back to eating meat.
I originally went vegetarian because I felt opposed to the way that the majority of animals were kept in captivity, and I turned vegetarian as I knew it would be easier than only eating free range/organic meat.
When I first tunred 'vegetarian' I was actually a pescatarian - I ate fish, and I stayed that way for a year or so before I gave up fish as well.
Since I've turned vegetarian, I've gained many more reasons for not eating meat than I started with - I've discovered that a vegetarian, or ideally vegan, is the healthiest diet you can eat, as not eating meat forces you to eat a much wider variety of foods, in order to get the various different nutrients you need. Also, there have been many scientific studies that show that vegetarians and vegans are far less likely to die of various diseases than meat eaters, for example, vegetarians are 28% less likely to die of heart disease than meat eaters, and vegans are 57% less likely.
I've also thought more about how 'natural' it is to eat meat, and done some research, and I discovered that the human body is not at all biologically similar to the bodies of carnivores, and is much more similar to the bodies of herbivores - we have long intestines, which digest food slowly, absorbing all the nutrients slowly, similar to many types of herbivore, while most carnivores have very short digestive tracts, which force the meat through their system quickly. Our teeth also show our similarities to herbivores - carnivores have large canines designed for ripping through raw flesh and crunching up bones, while herbivores have molars, like ours, and small canines for piercing fruit flesh and similar. These are used to gring the fibres of plants so that they can be digested with more ease. There is also evidence from the way that the idea of eating raw meat repulses most humans, and we are the only species that cook food - all 'true' carnivores eat their meat raw.
There are, of course, also ethical reasons to not eat meat, but these have mainly already been covered in this thread, and I feel no need to go over them again, but there is one I feel that I should mention - I can't remember who it was off hand, but someone commented that drinking milk has no damaging effect on animals, but truly, the dairy industry produces the milk by artificially inseminating female cows as soon as they are able to produce young, removing their calfs from their care a couple of days after giving birth (which are either kept for producing milk if female, or sold to the veal industry if male) and are then forced full of hormones to ensure that they keep on producing milk for far longer than is natural. This process is repeated through all of their child bearing lives, until they are too old, and sold for dog food. So no, the dairy industry is not overly kind to cows.
I know this was a long post, so I hope that anyone who had the stamina to read it through gained something useful from it!

Humans are actually omnivorous.
Cows are not fed full of hormones to produce more milk. (at least not everywhere, the hormones would go to the milk too..) And the meat actually goes to human food too, not just dog food..

Ok, I admit they're not all fed more hormones, but they are in most places. If it doesn't say it's organic, you can pretty much guarantee hormones. And all the antibiotics to stop them getting ill as well.
Even if I ate meat, I'm not so sure I'd like to eat the meat of an old cow who's been working all her life. It would be a bit tough. So yes, they also go to make stocks and things like that.

If they are not given antibiotics when sick, how do they treat them?
