Dragon eggs, Part the Third... Bring on the Hatchlings!

Introduction to Dragonz!

Reposted from Part II:

Anyone else have dragon eggs?   wink

I found the Dragon Cave website through a friend's signature link... you can "adopt" dragon eggs, watch them grow, breed the mature dragons, and more.  How does it work?

Well, new eggs are posted at the cave entrance every five minutes, but you have to be pretty fast to get one - they go quickly!  You post a link to your eggs to encourage others to click on them.  The more independent views the eggs get, the healthier they are and the faster they grow.***  If they don't get enough clicks, they will die.  If they do get enough views, the eggs  will hatch into a baby dragon.  At this point, you can give him or her a name.

More views will cause the hatchling to mature into a fully grown dragon.  Again, if it doesn't  get enough views, it can die.   sad

Anyway, it's fun.  Good luck with your eggs if you get them, and feel free to post about them here, with a link for all of us to help them grow.  And I would appreciate it if everyone would click on my eggs and view them, too.  The link is here.   THANKS!   bisou

***One word of warning, though - each person should only view an egg once, if possible.  If the same IP address views an egg too many times, it can get sick and die.  It's all a part of the challenge, to get as many new people to view your eggs as possible.

>>> HEY!!!  READ ME!!! <<<

Everyone, if you're having a problem with too many views, then try putting the link to your scroll in your sig, instead of the egg pics.  That way, people only view the eggs when they go to click them.  It should relieve the soft shell issues.

________________________________________

As far as rare eggs go, this is what I know...

Paper and chicken eggs are very rare.  They make up a very small portion of the total number of eggs that are offered, so people try to click for those first.

Dinosaur eggs are also rare, but less so.  They are the brightly colored eggs with the white  spots.  They can be yellow, red, blue, or green, IIRC.

Gold, silver, split (two-headed), vine (dark green), and Skywing (aqua swirly) eggs are somewhat rare.  They occur more often than chicks, dinos, and papers.

Zombie eggs are not available anymore.  The site went through a major overhaul recently, and all of the zombies disappeared.  They were supposed to be secret, and too many people talked.

The site's owner and admin is TJ09.  He has scroll # 1.  You can click on his scroll at any time to see all of the available dragons, in all stages of growth.  The link: TJ09's Scroll

Have fun with the dragon eggs!

Hatching eggs...

Noticing a crack in your egg?  That's a good thing!  The stages of hatching are:

Single crack
Multiple cracks
Multiple cracks with split
Small hole
Large hole
Hatchling  (At this point, you can name your dragon)
Mature hatchling  (At this point, the dragon's gender is revealed)
Adult

         >> There is a minimum of 3.5 days required before an egg can hatch, <<
         >>                   no matter how many clicks it gets!!                            <<
    >>  There is a minimum of 3.5 days required before a hatchling can mature   <<
         >>            into an adult, no matter how many clicks it gets!!               <<

Good luck hatching your dragons!

Re: Dragon eggs, Part the Third... Bring on the Hatchlings!

Dragon FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions):

PLEASE READ SO YOU DON'T CLUTTER THE THREAD WITH QUESTIONS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN ANSWERED!

______________________________________________

How often are eggs dropped at the Cave?

Eggs spawn every hour and then every 5 minutes (Eg, 1:00, 1:05, 1:10 etc). There are more eggs on the hour and then only 3 eggs every 5 minutes. Though that doesn't mean you are guaranteed to see one. They go quickly.  Abandoned eggs can appear any time. Whereas Cave eggs only appear at the 5 minute mark.

What is the difference between a Cave egg and an abandoned egg?

There isn't really a difference between caught egg and abandoned egg. Abandoned are just ones people have picked up and then decided they don't want. The only thing with abandoned is you can pick up ones with lineage (parents) since they could have been bred and that you get an extra day on the hatching deadline.

How long until my egg hatches?  How long until my hatchling matures?

There is no set amount. Hatching is based on a ratio of clicks, views, unique views, and time, so there is no magic number that you must reach.  It depends on the dragon, time and ratios.  In addition, different breeds may require more or less views/unique views/clicks.  However no matter how many clicks/views/unique views you have, no egg will hatch before 3.5 days.

My egg is cracking/has a big hole. Is it sick/did it run away?

That is perfectly normal. In fact, cracking is a good thing, as it is a sign that your egg is beginning to hatch. The only bad egg image is an image of an egg broken in half horizontally.  Example: http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k152/mowrie/dedegg.jpg

What types of eggs are available?

There are common, uncommon and rare Dragons.  Paper eggs and chicks are rare.  Dinosaur, Gold, Silver, Skywing, Split (two-headed), and Vine eggs are uncommon.  All other colors are common.

Christmas dragons cannot be obtained at the moment, but they may be released again next Christmas.

Neglected dragons can not be selected - they are normal eggs that go through a process to become neglected.  The method for obtaining neglected dragons is unknown to all users except those who have them, and even then they don't always know how the egg came to be neglected.

Which dragon will hatch from which egg?

It's supposed to be a secret, but you can see all of the dragons and their descriptions at the following website: http://dragcave.smeenet.org/min.php

How many eggs/hatchlings can I have at one time?

There is a maximum of 4 eggs on the scroll at any one time. Once one hatches, you can add another egg.  If you breed your dragons and get an egg, you can have up to 5 eggs.

However - if you have 4 hatchlings, you can't add anymore eggs.  Four hatchlings is considered a full clutch.  A message will appear that you have too many young dragons too take care of, so you can't add any more eggs until one of your hatchlings matures.

What happens when I hide my egg?

Hiding is used to delay an egg's hatching, usually when it is sick.  It could be that the egg has too many views and not enough clicks.  Eggs cannot hatch while hidden.  Hatchlings cannot mature while hidden.  Remember the time limit on the hidden egg still applies.

How many dragons can I collect?

You can have as many fully matured dragons as you like. There is no limit to your scroll.

Why is my egg or hatchling sick?

Egg soft shell and hatchling sickness is caused by abnormal conditions in the egg. There are three causes of disease:

    * Having too many views compared to unique views. If your egg or hatchling has
over 10 times more views than unique views, then it will become sick.
    * Having more clicks than unique views
    * Getting too many views/unique views/clicks in a short period of time.

Removing the sickness is simply a matter of removing whatever conditions are causing it. For example, if your egg has more clicks than unique views, then in order to get rid of the disease, then you need to get enough unique views so that the number of clicks becomes lower than the number of unique views.

What is freezing?

Freezing your hatchlings means that it will get to the second stage and stop maturing, staying a hatchling forever.  Some collectors use this option to collect one dragons at both stages of growth.  Freezing cannot be reversed.  Frozen hatchlings don't count towards your hatchling count.

Why/How did my egg die?

There are several ways an egg can die. The most common is that it ran out of time. From the moment you get your egg, you have 7 days to help it hatch or the egg will not survive. Eggs can also die from soft shells, which can be caused by several different conditions.

How long will a dead egg or hatchling stay on my scroll?

When your egg or hatchling dies, the dead egg is left on your scroll for 2 weeks. After that it will be removed automatically.  Dead eggs do not count towards the egg limit.  Warning: If you kill too many eggs or hatchlings your scroll will be burned.

Naming:

Naming a dragon can be difficult.  You only get to name your dragon once.  Names can only contain alphanumeric characters, as well as " " (space), "'" (apostrophe), or "-" (dash).  When it comes to naming your Dragons, bear in mind that many names have already been taken. When you try  to name your dragon, if a message appears saying the ink has disappeared - this means the name has already been taken.  You should alter the name slightly and try again, or choose another name.   Also note that names will disappear if the dragon does not receive any views for over 8 weeks.

What are clicks, views, and unique views?

Views, Unique Views, and Clicks are statistics that determine if your egg will hatch and if your hatchling will grow.  Views are accumulated every time someone views your dragon.  Unique Views are obtained in the same way, except only one unique view is given per egg per person.  A "click" occurs when someone clicks on your egg in your signature or wherever you place it.  As with Unique Views, clicks are only given once per person.

How do I get my dragons into my post/signature?

Click on your account, then click 'Get Code' for that dragon. Then you can pick your code from 4 different types, HTML, Neopets code, BBCode, and TinyURL. Your best bet to use on this forum is the BBCode one. Take that code then you go to My Profile.  Paste your code in the box for your signature, and your eggs/hatchlings/adults will appear in your signature!

Example of code:  http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k152/mowrie/BBCode.jpg

Another good way to display your dragons is with an incubator.  Incubators are a relatively new thing.  They are a way of displaying your eggs, hatchlings and adult dragons in one small space.  Usually they are set up to link to your scroll, so one click takes you to all of the dragonz.  One thing to note is that an incubator is merely an image of your scroll at the moment it was generated, so it will not update.  When your scroll changes, you will have to make a new one.  Here is an example of an incubator:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k152/mowrie/incubator_Stacie.png

This incubator was made with the DragCave site - it links to my scroll.  Click "quote" at the bottom of this post to see the code I used to make it work.

How do you breed dragons?

The "Breed" action is available on the actions menu for female dragons. If you click it, you will be presented with a list of any male dragons on your scroll that are ready for breeding. Select one of those and breeding will be attempted. Breeding may only be attempted once per week for each dragon, male or female.  Breeding is not always successful, however, and may fail to produce an egg. It it is successful, it may produce up to 4 eggs. If multiple eggs are produced, then you must select one egg to keep and the rest will be abandoned for others to take.

Why can't I breed my dragons?

Split (Two-headed) dragons have restricted breeding - they can only breed with other split dragons.  Golds can only breed with another dragon type - breeding gold with gold will always fail.  The following dragons/nondragons can not breed at all:
    * Chickens
    * Paper
    * Dinos (Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green)

All other dragons can breed with any breeds, as far as I know.

Why can't I get a male pink dragon?  Or a female dinosaur?

Some breeds are only available in a single gender:

    * Female-only:
          o Pink Dragon
          o Purple Dragon
          o Chicken

    * Male-only:
          o All Dinos

All other breeds are available in both male and female.

Do I still need to get views/unique views/clicks for my adult to survive?

No, once a dragon reaches adulthood, it is able to fend for itself and will only die if you kill it yourself or if it is discovered that you are breaking the rules (Such as an offensive or inappropriate name/description).  It should be noted, however, that if a dragon isn't viewed for 8 weeks, his/her name will be dropped and available for someone else to use, so you probably want to make sure and view your adult dragons at least once every couple of months.

Re: Dragon eggs, Part the Third... Bring on the Hatchlings!

Woohoo! Second post in the NEW thread! Thanks Mowrie! I'm going to re-post this as I think there aren't enough people online to see it and I feel bad for my little hatchling not having someone that wants him..  sniff

Attention: Abandoning hatchling!

I am getting ready to abandon this hatchling http://dragcave.net/image/JDFz.gif as I already have a male of this species. I'd love for someone here to grab him up before a stranger does but if no one wants him I'll let him go anyway. It will grow up in a day and a 1/2 and as I said..is male. Anyone who wants to try to get him please PM me so I can give you the link to use. I am super tired tonight having done massive amounts of yard work today and am going to bed for now. I will wait to abandon him until morning (it's 11 PM now) to give him a chance to be adopted by someone from here and not another site. Good luck to all who try!! If you're the one who grabs him up please PM me so I can watch my adopted out baby grow up in your lovely bimbo hands.  content3

Re: Dragon eggs, Part the Third... Bring on the Hatchlings!

Well my hatchling is named, after my impatience bore fruit. Now lets see if it survives its difficult adolescence, especially since after the name I've given it, it must be sexually confused!

The measure of a man's real character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out. Why did I take so many eggs? Please help by clicking smile

Re: Dragon eggs, Part the Third... Bring on the Hatchlings!

Hey?  Where'd this come from?

I've been out most of the day... getting ready for my wedding reception.  (Sorry, just a little excited... got married in Feb. and we're just now holding the reception).

Yay!  New thread!
