They will hurt at first, they do for about a week, then they will settle down, just take some pain killers and grin and bare it, it will go away. When they are new it just takes your teeth time to get used to them and settle, dont forget that it is there to pull your teeth from one position to another so it is going to be sore when they are first pulled.

When I first got my brace it really hurt and I couldn't eat anything inless it was soft, but after a few days your teeth will get used to it and it won't hurt so much, also, when you finally get it off you will be so happy with the result, I kept saying that I was going to ask to have the brace removed but i'm glad I didn't.

You will get used to it in about a week, thats normal, especially since you just got them on. Just take 2 advil, and it should help. I promise you will get used to it, and it wont always hurt like that.

It'll get better - no worries!!
Take some meds.

Paracetomols to sooth. It's strange, mine didn't hurt as I was told it would. Always remember to keep thinking about how perfect your teeth will be after!

when i had my brace on it hurt so much but just keep on taking paracetamol and it should settle and sort its self out then you will barely notice its there.

My teeth were very stubborn so it really hurt when the braces forced them to move. The advice I got was to keep a Dispirin ( don't know if you have that there put it's a dissolving aspirin pill) in your mouth until it's completely dissolved and then spit it out. Thus the aspirin only seeps a into your gums. It worked for me but I don't know if it was just my imagination so maybe you should check with someone first.

im supposed to get them in December!

I was 20 when I got them for the second time. For some reason I found that the guys really liked them. No idea why, I thought they were awful...
But I would take advil right before having them adjusted and take more advil as needed. Advil and wax. And if you really talk to your doctor and have everything adjusted just right- you won't need the wax.
Best of luck and wear your retainer!

I get mine off in about seven weeks I'm so happy but the downside is my holiday is in four weeks so I can't get them off for that. Too bad but I'm still happy enough.
I got clip-on ones for a over bite like these:

I wore then from about July last year to December last year.
Then I got "train-tracks" on December 14th last year (I still remember the exact date LOL). I'm away to get them off on the 16th of October. At the momment I have to wear elastic bands (elastics) on one side.
If anybody has any questions about braces feel free to personal message me and I'll try my best to answer your question(s).

I once had braces and it took me a week - and I couldn't eat either. I had a bit of really mushed up fish, and then ice lollies for the entire week. The ice seemed to numb the pain - don't worry, it can only get better

Im getting braces in a few months too. It seems like everyone is getting them at the moment but im not looking forward to getting them for the next 2 and a half years

It takes a while for you to get used to them. I was supposed to get braces when I was twelve, but thank God they straightened out when I got older!

It kills for the first week or so. I got braces this February, to help correct my underbite and since I seemed to have stopped growing, it's working really well and I might be able to get them off sooner than the planned 2 years!
