Oh definitely!! If you don't have an agent you wont get any work. The thing is, you can go to acting school and participate in plays etc... But without an agent you will never get a real acting job.

Re: An actress seeking help

Honestly, you have the most important factor down, motivation.

Everything after the fact is just a matter of practice and networking.

Try to join the actors guild if you're serious, this is pretty important.

Definitely look into getting an agent! They're the ones who look for work for you, and as mentioned it would be difficult getting into the business without one. And the modelling would also help your acting profile. Good luck  smile

Part-time job or favours for neighbors? Check what's going on at your local theatre, the more experience the better.

Oh and what type of actress were you planning on being?

Google, or whatever you can get- as in theatre, talent scouts come round from time to time, keep up the game and maybe you can...

Re: An actress seeking help

you need to get an equity card, if you haven't already. Like other people have said, get an agent. You could also try being an extra. There are loads of agencies around and the pay is pretty good. Also, you should join your local theatre and do some am dram. You will start of with bit parts, but stick with it and you'll start getting better stuff.

Also, be careful. Lots and lots of people want to be actors, so you have to be the best. Even then you might not get it. Whatever the actors on TV say, it does take a bit of luck. You need to have a back up plan, just in case. Good luck with it though!

Was hoping to do movie, tv, commercial, etc that kind of thing
Well does anybody know how much on average it would cost to get an agent?

Re: An actress seeking help

Take every opportunity you can get. It's all about exposure. Agents are nice, but you technically don't need one if you're good at scouting out open gigs. Always remind people you're there. Local theatres are great. It's nice if your town knows who you are- more people will recommend you and what not.

Re: An actress seeking help

I also love acting so here are my tips, watch lots and lots of movies to see what other people do(facial expression, movement, accent etc.), also practice in the mirror so you see what kind of facial expression your making and also it will give you more confidence, record yourself or even video record what your doing so you can see whats good and what you need to work on, ask for friends opinion on things, and lastly as an actress you have to remember that u cant get a part on every audition you do, its just the way it goes, so hold your head high and smile. I hope i helped smile

Re: An actress seeking help

Best thing to do is get as much experience as you can.
Best thing I've ever done anyway and believe me it helps.

Being an actress was one of the most important thing to me, but it is also a very hard thing to do get onto the big screen and things like that. You might want to start out doing small things to get you noticed. And make sure you really want to do it.

Re: An actress seeking help

I suddently had another idea Gigglygoth, become an exra!
I saw this on tv about a month ago, you can apply to beome an extra (the extra people needed for crowd scenes and the like) in commercials, films and tv shows, you get paid for it and if youre lucky you can get spotted by a director and land a role as a main character in something!!
If this has already been mentioned sorry tongue But it is a great way to kick start your career
